IRS Finalizes Dirty Dozen Tax Scams Of 2023

April 12, 2023

Every year, the IRS posts a list of the Dirty Dozen tax scams to make taxpayers, business owners, and tax fillers to be aware of what to watch out for. These tax scams range widely in schemes to separate you from your money.

Many of these tax scams will be in peak effect during tax season but continue to occur throughout the year by unscrupulous fraudsters.

I've been told, "identity theft is not a joke Jim", which is why I like to share the IRS's notice so we are all aware.

To highlight this year's dozen, and a couple more from years past, here are a couple major scams to be aware of:

  • Phishing - nearly always on the top of the list. This continues to be an issue through Facebook and email.
  • Identity Theft
  • Online Account "Help" - I haven't seen this on the Dirty Dozen before. Glad to know it's there. See below for more details.
  • Fake Charities
  • Downright fraud
